Oven problem
Oven Bakes Unevenly? Sensor, Convection Fan, or Calibration.
If your oven is bake-cold-bake-hot or one side is always darker than the other, the temperature sensor or the convection fan is the typical culprit. Both are inexpensive parts.
Common causes
What's actually wrong
Temperature sensor drift
Most common. Oven thermistor reads inaccurately, control board responds incorrectly.
Convection fan failure
On convection ovens, fan failure causes hot spots and slow cooking.
Calibration off
Some ovens drift over years and need recalibration via the control panel.
Door not sealing
Heat leaking out of one side of the door makes that side cooler.
Element partial failure
Bake element weak in one section — visible by the glow pattern on electric.
Before you call
Quick checks you can do
- Check the door gasket for damage.
- Place a thermometer in the center and run at 350°F. Compare to set temp.
- Listen for the convection fan running (convection models).
When to call us
Sensor and convection fan replacements are quick. Calibration we can adjust on most modern ovens during the visit.
